Surprise escalator concert 🎻
Plus, a polite horse.

Good morning. 😁 Music makes everything better, don’t you think? Even something as mundane as riding an escalator can turn into a magical experience with some tunes. Just ask the commuters below, who were surprised with a free concert!

SUNDAY SPOTLIGHT
Violinist Treats Strangers To Spontaneous Performance On Escalator & We Wish We Were There!
Alexander Demidov loves the piano and the violin, but he plays several instruments. He is a neoclassical composer who is influenced by Russian classics. He also enjoys the simplicity of Celtic and other minimalist styles.
One of Alexander’s favorite places to perform is on the escalators in the Metro in St. Petersburg, Russia. The Saint Petersburg Metro is one of the deepest in the world, with the deepest station at 86 meters (282 feet) below ground. Although these sessions are free, he performs snippets of his works as a way to advertise his concerts. The sound quality in the escalator chute is phenomenal. Hear it below:
This young man has been writing music since he was a child, improvising and refining compositions to perfection rather than writing them down. After music school, his compositions are now available as sheet music. He has one album, Photinia, released in 2022, and is almost ready to release a second album, which includes vocals. He also has several singles available through his website, Spotify, and on YouTube.
The violin isn’t the only instrument Alexander Demidov plays on the escalators.
He also has a portable keyboard mounted on a shoulder rig. The escalator chute amplifies the sound of the instrument, making it seem as though the music is enveloping you. Listen by clicking the post below:
In addition to playing his own compositions, Alexander sometimes serenades Metro passengers with some timeless classics. The snippet below is an Elvis tune, Can’t Help Falling in Love With You.
If you are unsure about whether you would enjoy neoclassical instrumental music, Alexander’s Instagram page offers a good sampling. You can also hear complete renditions on his YouTube channel. Alexander Demidov also posts his violin and piano talents on TikTok. So, even if you aren’t lucky enough to catch one of his impromptu concerts in person, you can treat yourself to his music whenever you want!
